The beautiful sound of fandoms colliding

If it weren’t obvious to everyone, I’ve been on a VIXX bender ever since I got into them in March and with Plan V Diary coming to an end earlier in the week, I was doubtful when I’d be able to get my next fix. But it seems like I won’t have to wait long since the release of their (first ever!!!!!) mini album will coincide with the day of their first year anniversary party on May 20. *throws confetti* It seemed like not long ago since they ended ‘On and On’ promotions but I guess they’re going the B.A.P route with the whole never stop promoting/don’t ever give anyone the chance to forget them thing. I’m not complaining…much. I’m really eager to see how they’ll top the vampire concept but since I’m a fan of all their singles so far, I’m not counting on the boys to disappoint.

In related news, BTOB ended their recent Show Champion ‘2nd Confession’ performance with the ending pose from ‘On and On’. Ah, when fandoms collide…

Two more things: (1) I’m so glad Himchan finally took off his bandage!!! I’ve seen it on him for so long, I’ve really gotten used to that thing being wrapped around his right hand. But now that it’s off and with the news of him finally taking part in B.A.P activities starting with B.A.P Live on Earth Pacific, my OT6 has reunited as one and I couldn’t be happier.

And (2) Eat Your Kimchi‘s interview with uBEAT (+ Kevin) was the absolute cutest. It’s the kind of thing we could only dream of doing… *single tear* Eli cracked me up the most, especially with him trying to portray himself as some serious composer and talking about his “rapping style” LMAO. But seriously though, these boys are sooooo personable, I just want to give them the world. *squishes*

Holiday update

For those who don’t know, I’ve been in Chiang Mai for the past week, and it really is quite lovely here. The only part of Thailand I’ve been to is Phuket, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It’s not exactly a shopping paradise (though their Sunday night bazzars at Tapae Gate is huuuge) but I like the atmosphere here and the people are nice despite the language barrier.

Today’s my last day here and while I’ve had a nice time, I do miss home quite a bit (oh what I’d do for stable Internet connection~~). The reason why we came was mainly because my dad wanted to take part in the Chiang Mai marathon and wanted to drag us along by disguising it as a “family holiday trip”. The run was on Sunday morning, and despite my initial overwhelming dread, it turned out surprisingly okay. Let’s hope my one day workout is enough to make up for all the pigging out I’ve been doing. Thai food is both cheap and amazing. I think my brother’s had at least six different variations of Pad Thai from six different locations. Hmm…

While I’ve been away, it seems that U-KISS, the idol group that first got me into K-pop, will finally be popping over to our shores in Feb 2013 since their last visit in Nov 2010. …Yes, I’m actually excited enough to dedicate a post to this.

I’ve seen the boys twice now – once in KL last year ((long story short: I cut work and endured a 6-hour coach ride to see them)), and another time earlier this year at the Simply KPOP taping in Seoul. Which was an amazing experience because the members were just all kinds of cute, and really friendly and down-to-earth, and it just made me really glad to be a fan.

But what I don’t like is that because they’ve have been around for so long, they have such a huge body of work that when it comes to performances, they only get to do their title tracks, which is merely a sliver of their entire discography. Which is disappointing for me because they have so many better songs that aren’t part of their promotional cycles. So I’m especially excited to hear that this time, they could be here for a concert, instead of a fanmeet so we’d hopefully get to really see what U-KISS is capable of.

As of now, it seems that the concert will be (1) in February (2) after CNY and (3) during a weekend, so that narrows down the dates to either 16-17 or 23-24. For updates about the concert as well as details that are soon to be released, do keep checking back with @Judyvein from Jig Asia.

And finally, though I’m a little behind and it’s already Boxing Day back in Singapore… a huge Merry Christmas to everyone!

Here are some videos to be merry about:

Flower Boy Next Door just released another video teaser, which shows clips from Episode 1, and everything is so cute and fluffy and there’s eye candy everywhere and god, I hope it’ll turn out as good as it looks! The drama will begin airing on January 7 so mark your calendars!!

Also, BtoB, a rookie group that I couldn’t really bring myself to care about when they first debuted in March, have definitely shone a little brighter in my eyes since. I really like their personalities, and I especially love their energy and fanservice on stage.

They’ve had some experience with reality shows, and I’ve watched some clips here and there and the boys are adddoorrraableee~ I’m convinced this is a group you’ll never be able to have a permanent bias because they all have their individual charms. My favourites as of now are Hyunsik, Sungjae and Peniel. But ya know, that’ll probably change as well…

They’re currently filming for SBS MTV’s B+ Diary and here’s one of the clips from Episode 2, where the members are sort of in an… unusual dating show scenario. This made my cheeks hurt from watching because I was grinning so much.

And finally, some holiday greetings from my OT6, and the group who will always be 2012’s Rookie of the Year to me no matter what happens:

+ a bonus Christmas selca from Daehyun

December’s gonna be great

I’m on a very brief (I swear) respite from studying to document the very large hole SMTown Live World Tour III has left in my heart (and wallet). I don’t confess to being an SM stan since I much prefer BlockB.A.P, but now that EXO has officially joined SMTown, well, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Although EXO only performed ‘History’ and ‘MAMA’ and they were up quite early on, the rest of the concert was just… asdfghjkl;lkl;’

I really didn’t expect to enjoy myself as much as I did. Yes, despite the fact that the clouds decided to rain all over us towards the last few songs and despite the fact that my poncho was a cheap piece of crap that barely covered me and left me soaked. I especially enjoyed Super Junior‘s performances because they sang a lot of their songs live and their stage presence was impressive, even though Leeteuk and Siwon were missing from the line-up.

Some highlights off the top of my head, in no particular order:

  1. EXO, of course. I was waving my EXO-M lightstick around like a mad woman, and may or may not have screeched like a banshee each time the camera flashed to Lay. (Though I found out later that he hurt his back and slumped forward from the pain mid-way through ‘History’ ;___;) I was so excited when EXO-M started off the ‘MAMA’ perf since K usually do it, so we get to see Kris and Xiumin lip-shouting hee ^^
  2. Eunhyuk‘s Singlish moments when Suju was introducing themselves. I can’t wholly remember but I think he even pulled out “Do you happy lah?” at one point.
  3. When the fangirl was wrapped in a KyuMin sandwich at the end of ‘Just the Way You Are’, I swear I could hear collective envious sighs all around.
  4. I usually roll my eyes at Kris’ attempt at swag during the SMTown ‘Like A G6’ performances but watching it live was seriously… :O And when Kris, Amber and Key climbed onto the substage that was so freaking close to where I was sitting, oh god, I. Cannot. Function. With Krisber being chummy and sitting by the edge of the stage and diva Key making fab faces at the camera, the performance was too flawless for words.
  5. Um, JongMin porn during ‘Internet War’? Kthxbai. I vaguely recall Ying Xin saying something like “I shouldn’t say this but omg that was so hot” LOL. But understandable, because omgitwassohot.
  6. I’m not sure if ‘Open Arms’ has been performed previously but it was SO GOOD. I especially liked Baekhyun‘s voice in the song. Such a good rendition, ahhh~
  7. When Suju did ‘Superman’, complete with their overdramatic entrance and then ‘Bonamana’ later, I was so captivated. Those two were definitely among my favourite performances of the night, along with Donghae and Eunhyuk’s ‘Oppa Oppa’. Consider me an ~E.L.F.~ now… loljk but they were that good.
  8. And the end with ‘Hope’ with LayHan being cute spraying water on everyone (ft. Sehun running off like a little girl), and KrisLay going off together at one point ~MY FEELS~ And Tao with his panda hat!!! (Even though I only saw this later in fancams.) I thought the rain would make everyone stay at the main stage, but they were all running around the different stages and being fanservicey. What a perfect end to a perfect four-hour concert.

But now I have to accept the fact that I’ve been to one of the biggest K-pop events in existence basically, and that it’s over now (WAHHH BUT I DON’T WANNAAAA). And here’s a highlight reel for Dinoseoul that Michelle edited (because wow, that’s totally helping me not wanna turn back time and return to Friday night).

Ahem, moving on to December… Some things to look forward to (so I don’t sink into an SMTown-induced funk):

  • Sundown Festival 2012 + press con. Yay I can’t wait to see BTOB live! Hmm… Gotta think of some non-fangirly questions to raise during the press con. AH ILHOON-AH NOONA IS COMING
  • Then once my exams are finally over, I get to celebrate with some RaNia heh. Idk I think it’ll be fun! Gotta do my homework and listen to their songs first though.
  • Then I’ll be meeting up with some of the poly kids for dinner, and finally get to see the two now-bald boys whom I haven’t seen in 5ever
  • I’ve also got Main Comm handover for FOC ’13, which will hopefully not be as awkward a night as I think it’d be…
  • Followed by two days of emceeing at NEX Citigems which will put a cool 350 bucks in my pocket (at the expense of my pride, but ya know…)
  • And then my second ever independent trip out of Singapore to be reunited with my Yixing (lolol just let me please) cause I’ll be going for the 2012 Asia Super Showcase in Malaysia! It’ll be a night of the underdogs because the line-up consists of Super Junior-M, EXO-M and BTOB (heh again). I am so excited for this, I cannot even. I really hope EXO-M (1) sings live and (2) have more than just two songs.
  • I’ll also be going to Chiang Mai in the second half of December and I heard the weather’s lovely, and the place is lovely, AND THERE’S WI-FI IN THE HOTEL ROOM *celebrates*

December’s gonna be guh-reat. I can’t wait.

Chin up, soldier

Uni continues to undermine my existence, but what else is new? Just a short post before I get back to writing my film essay. I just wanted a little pick-me-up and remind myself of all the good there is in my life, even though it sure doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

  • Brian Joo this week! It’s Dinoseoul‘s first-ever press con invite, so I’m looking forward to schmoozing with other like-minded media people. Haha okay, knowing us, we’ll probably retreat to a corner and stare at everyone in awe, feeling truly honoured to simply be a part of the action.
  • Dinoseoul got another press-con invite for Tim Hwang‘s event in late November too! At this point, we seem to be getting passes for the not-so-known K-pop celebrities, but it really is a huge step up from nothing.
  • Still looking forward to SMTown on 23 Nov, even though I’m a little worried since we haven’t yet claimed our Cat 3 tickets. I hope everything goes smoothly and that our seats are good. And it’s Lay‘s birthday today! Happy 21st, you precious unicorn~ My um, extended gross, mushy birthday message is here.
  • Rachel and I booked a rather impromptu budget flight to KL in December ✈ I’m quite excited because it’ll mean (1) School’s out for the semester! and (2) The possibility of seeing EXO-M live again. We’re travelling in the hopes of catching the 2012 Asia Super Showcase in Malaysia that has the Super Junior-M boys as headliners, and EXO-M and BTOB as guests. VIP tickets are insanely exorbitant at 600RM, so we’re probably aiming for one of the lower cats. Details here.

Leaving you with a gif. of the awesome two owners of Dinoseoul – taken from a very ridiculous video we filmed at Baskin Robbins last Thursday.
