Of Monstars and Men

I just finished watching Episode 10 of Monstar and I think it might be my favourite yet. I laughed, I cried, I giggled, I squealed… I just love this show to death. I love that the episode finally shone a spotlight on Eun Ha‘s problems and her tantrum about Se Yi taking away Seol Chan from her was one that I felt was completely understandable. Do Nam and Kyu Dong‘s friendship takes a turn for the better too and the soccer scene was the cutest thing.

Although I’m wholeheartedly onboard the Se Yi-Seol Chan ship, I get that there are people who are second-lead shipping, and I don’t blame them because Kang Ha Neul is so gorgeous *__* I think Ha Yeon Soo and Kang Ha Neul look super cute and compatible together, so I actually won’t be surprised if in a couple of months, they came out and said they were dating (one can hope!).

They recently did a set of Denmark Milk CFs and even share a smooch (or two!) in them. It’s all really cute and this is probably more expression I’ve seen on her face than all of the Monstar episodes put together.

How to love

I just got back from CJ‘s Dansu Dansu showcase and it was a fun night, which I may (……probably not lol) blog about in the near future when the pics from everyone’s phones and cameras are slowly released on Facebook and everywhere else. Meanwhile, here’s a song that I’m completely smitten with:

Words can’t explain how much I love this song. It’s so pretty from start to finish and I’m not really enough of a fan to properly tell their voices apart (besides Junhyung since I’ve watched enough Monstar episodes to kinda know) but they all sound so good!!! I’ve given the rest of the album a cursory listen and it’s actually really good too though I definitely need a couple more spins to really fall in love with it. Great comeback, nonetheless.

B.A.P also released ‘Hurricane’ earlier in the week and I wasn’t all that impressed with the MV, but the song’s my new jam. It’s really different from anything they’ve put out before, and it’s totally something I can imagine playing at all the clubs but still, it’s completely impossible to not get into it. And can we talk about how they manage to squeeze in the whistling to every song ever and it still doesn’t sound out of place? My favourite part in the song’s Zelo‘s rap and the dance break where he raps again. And now I’m just picturing his giant head of curls and smiling to myself. Cute maknae is cute. But I’ll go into more detail about everything when I get round to doing my review for Dinoseoul…..which is hopefully soon. *fingers crossed*

Go away Kim Taehyung

This was gonna be a deep reflective post cataloguing some of my favourite musical choices over the years and how they made navigating the treacherous waters of adolescence a little more manageable but… V happened. So here’s a cute vlog where V talks about his pre-debut days and how no one knew of his existence until the first Bangtan teaser was released.

He is just adsakljfhkdjs I’m not sure why Big Hit decided to keep him from us until the big reveal but I guess it was just purely for the element of surprise. It must have sucked for him though to not have been able to participate in all their pre-debut activities like the vlogs and the tweeting/selcas. Currently, he seems to be ruining everyone’s Bangtan bias lists so good on him! *cries a little because we share the same birthday but you’re three whole years younger than me*

Three things

1. Bangtan‘s cover of ‘Born Sinner’ is freaking perfection. I don’t follow the boys much and don’t really keep up with their stages and interviews and things like that, but I’m well aware of how talented they are. Happy 1st month to them!

2. I really should catch up on all the EXO stuff because I’ve been seeing GIFs of their Weekly Idol, Happy Camp and Beatles Code stints all over Tumblr and they look hilarious. Apparently they’ll be promoting a follow-up song soon, which would explain the hair changes and oh please, let it be something cute like ‘Peter Pan’ or ‘3.6.5’ or one of their ballads, because I desperately want to see something different from them onstage.

And on a somewhat related note, can we all just take a moment to welcome Krisus back? It’s amazing what a lighter shade of hair colour can do for this guy. Like wow Kris, this is not a freaking runway, can you maybe not???

3. My boys are coming back!!! It’s been only two weeks since VIXX‘s goodbye stages for ‘hyde’ and already, they’re set for a comeback this month. I do think it’s much too early and they definitely need to rest but I’m crossing my fingers for a cute song next because ‘Rock Ur Body’ 5ever!!!!1 It’ll also be much easier to promote and less intense compared with something like ‘hyde’ where they had to almost play a character each time they were onstage which I’m sure is exhausting.

Hyuk‘s gone blonde and evidently a drastic colour change is the number 1 tell-tale sign of a comeback. And Ross Lara, whom they’re working with for the comeback track has also revealed on Twitter, hinting at the boys’ return so yay!!!

For the Quinn

Here’s the song of the day, which has somehow and inevitably been attached forever to this year’s WKWSCIFOC’13, thanks to some of the Thai wannabe-popstars in our cohort.

After slightly more than half a year, WKWSCIFOC’13: Circus Obscura has come to an eventful close. I’ve reiterated a bunch of times about how much I regretted my decision to join the Main Committee simply for the fact that it took up a little more time than I was willing to give but now that it’s officially over, I do look back fondly on the friendships I’ve forged over these past few months as well as strongly believe that I’ve come out stronger for having overcome this in one piece. While I would never choose to do anything like this ever again, this experience did teach me a lesson or two and also allowed me to come to a few self-realisations of my own.

I’m in no way a peoples’ person or some social butterfly, I’m fully aware of that. I’m selective when it comes to the people I choose to spend my time with and most of the time, I’d pick solitude over being surrounded by meaningless and awkward conversations that never amount to anything. I’ve also learnt that I have such a poor perception of myself and going through camp and bearing that sense of responsibility as someone older and more senior really made me realise that maybe I’m not as bad a person as I think. I genuinely enjoyed caring for the freshies, making sure they blocked up and drank up, and making sure they had someone to talk to during meal times and that no one was lagging behind or left alone.

Joining the Main Committee was me going out on a limb and making the extra effort to try and make my Wee Kim Wee experience a little more enriching, and I did like the challenge and the Quinn freshies turned out to be such a cute bunch. Coming from Cherokee last year where we dominated and pretty much won everything, it took a bit for me to adjust to the Quinn attitude, but after I did, I really appreciated how chill they were – even when they came in last for almost everything LOL. The flash mob was so much fun and one of my favourite camp moments was during the last leg of Amazing Race and both Houdini and Quinn were fighting for third and last place and when we finally saw them coming in from the distance, both OGs were walking hand in hand towards the finish line. It was the cutest thing!!!!!

When it was time to finally break camp, even our dear chair Junfeng got all choked up delivering his final speech. D’awwwww. I can understand how he feels though – his last eight months were entirely dedicated to FOC and to see his hard work finally pay off and realising that it’s all over in the matter of five days must be a little emotional. Everyone knows I have a heart of ice and even I was touched when our Quinn freshies suddenly enveloped all the seniors in a surprise group hug. It was so sweet.

And yesterday was Reverb 2013, which is usually a chance for all the OGs to have their first post-camp outing, and for some reason, Caster and I thought it would be a good idea to go, except Caster came an hour later than I did because he was “nua-ing at home”. That boy, I swear… The performances were pretty good though and just goes to show the amount of talent our school is made of. During dinner, the freshies surprised us once again by whipping out paper bag gifts for each and every one of us seniors. I JUST- WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE AND SWEET?!?! Everyone’s came with a bag of sweets and a random toy. Mine was a super cute bow and arrow, which… okay, I don’t really know what to do with, but still, how cute are they??? And seeing the freshies really bond and have fun together, I just can’t help but feel happy for them, like I’m some proud mother watching my chicks fly for the first time. Or something. Good for them. :’)

Now that everything we’ve worked hard for is finally over, I’m feeling nothing other than a strong sense of relief. I didn’t walk away empty-handed of course, but really, thank god it’s over. My literal last words that were tossed out to some of the other seniors as I left camp were a half-joking, “Okay, let’s go back to ignoring one another,” which I guess speaks a lot about my cynicism and general outlook on life. Oh well.
